In the footsteps of the Abbey

In the XNUMXth century, a monastery was built on the lands of Baron de L'Aigle. Shortly after its foundation, the community will be incorporated into the famous Abbey of Fontevraud. This order, created by Robert d'Arbrissel is revolutionary: it proposes to bring together monks and nuns within the same abbey, directed by a woman!

A village will develop next to this foundation and be intimately linked to it. Today Chaise-Dieu has precious vestiges of this period.

During your visit, discover the history of this double priory. Enter the Saint-Jean Chapel and learn the incredible history of this building. Finally, cross the porch of the old abbey (private property subject to availability) to discover the vestiges that hide behind the imposing checkered wall or discover the secrets of the Notre-Dame du Theil church.
