The castle motte is a medieval defense work considered to be the precursor of the fortified castle. The Domaine d'Avrilly was given in the XNUMXth century by Rollo to
one of his companions Bernard the Danish, from whom the Harcourt family descended. It is assumed that the keep of Avrilly was destroyed around 1377-1378, when the King of France ordered to “destroy” all the military fortifications of the King of Navarre.
