In the spring of 2009, the people of Verneuil-sur-Avre saw a horse-drawn carriage pulled by two Percheron horses and carrying a dozen passengers, listening attentively to the historical commentary of a heritage guide, pass beneath their windows for the first time. Since then, the Histoires en calèche (Horse-drawn carriage stories) have returned to Verneuil-sur-Avre every year.
A ride like no other
Aboard a 15-seater carriage pulled by two horses, a heritage guide will tell you the story of Verneuil-sur-Avre from its founding to the present day. A journey through time in the heart of the old town, in the shadow of the facades of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the XNUMXth century.e century. Half-timbered and checkered houses, mansions, churches, towers and dungeons pass before your amazed eyes.
An experience on a human scale
Beyond the fun aspect of a carriage ride, the Carriage Stories are a real opportunity for interaction between visitors, the heritage guide, and the carriage driver. Passengers respond to the guide's comments and sometimes share their own stories or experiences in France or abroad. The driver is happy to answer your questions about his profession, his equipment, and his animals.
