In the south of the Eure, near Verneuil d'Avre and d'Iton, discover the history of a village with a wrought iron destiny, to learn all about ironwork and the tradition of ironworkers ... Thanks to the "grison", a local iron ore, the Franchevillais were for centuries pioneers of ironwork. In 1835, the village had no less than 400 forges for 1 inhabitants, and it was in 800 that the last forge in the village died out. Go back in time and discover this charming little municipal museum, which highlights this artisanal know-how and symbolizes a whole part of the history of the village.
Since one curiosity is worth another, take the detour through La Guéroulde (5 km), and go… to the cemetery to discover the imposing wrought iron pyramid erected on the tomb of Martin Duval, Master of the forge, who died in 1836.
